The first time we saw the kids' room, it looked like this:
| When it belonged to someone else, circa January 2010. |
Our offer on the house was finalized on Valentine's Day in 2010, when we were just a few weeks away from meeting Evelyn. We moved in around April, I think. And the room looked like this:
| The walls were still just as yellow as they were in the MLS photo. |
| Abby made those mobiles and the light fixture that's still in the room today. |
I did, at one point, actually hang a bunch of things on the walls. They were small square canvas paintings from Evelyn's baby shower. It didn't last long because I hung them over her changing table, and she promptly knocked them all down frequently enough that I just took them down for good. The walls have been really bare since then.
We went through some rearranging, and tried different things from time to time. When Gideon was set to arrive, we transitioned Evelyn to a big twin bed with a mattress set from my Momo that we had in the attic. We didn't have a twin bed frame or anything yet, so it looked like this:
| Interior decorating at its finest. |
And we moved Gideon's crib to the closet.
| I'd removed the bi-fold doors right when we moved in (from all closets in the house) because they make me twitch. |
In the past two years, I've done some little things here and there. A good deal of work was done right after Gideon was born, when Jonathan's mom (MeeMaw) was here. I painted the room and the closet to get rid of the yellow everywhere, and Terry used the polka dot short curtains that I'd used since Evelyn was born to sew stripes onto some long white panels and a few matching pillowcases too.
This past week, I've been motivated to give some time and energy to the kids' room again, so here we stand:
| Evelyn's bed, complete with her beloved Mommy, Daddy, and Baby fox. |
| We'll probably transition Gideon to a twin bed... um, at some point (we got a bunk bed set when we were getting Evelyn's bed, so we have the frame but just need to get a mattress). |
| Gideon's crib. |
| E's side again. Jonathan got me the letter prints for my birthday last year. I love them. You can find them at EAK Design on Etsy. |
We went with this orangey color in the closet to complement the colors in the curtains without being overly matchy matchy. Thanks to Abby for all color consultations.
| Wall decal from Blik. We love it. We know them as Frank the Monkey and Barnaby the Elephant. |
I finally got around to hanging these lights from little teacup hooks in the closet. GOB loves to look at them when getting his diaper changed.
| I have a thing for circles and spheres. |
So that's that for now. I'm pretty happy with it.
| Gideon and Syd enjoying the room. |
