Dientes

That tooth is not messin around.
It was off to the pediatric dentist with us this morning to say adios to Evelyn's upper left canine tooth. We usually go to our family dentists (who we really really LOVE - seriously, I look forward to dentist appointments), but Evelyn's regular dentist consults with the pediatric dentist and the ped dentist is the one to go to for extractions like this because he has laughing gas. Apparently regular dentists don't use it much anymore. That's a shame. I remember the pig-nosed mask and bubblegum-scented laughing gas fondly. I've spent some time with dentists. I've seen some things. But I digress. Dr. Kevin and his staff were wonderful. I love the peds dentist because I get to sit in the lobby and read while they do their thing.

Evelyn marched happily back, I read my book, and about thirty minutes later she emerged all gauze-mouthed and happy, clutching a new doll and stretchy lizard. And holding the My Little Pony that the Tooth Fairy delivered in advance* so E could take the pony with her to the dentist's. That Fairy, so on top of things. The hygenist and dentist both told me that she did so well. No tears, no problems, all smiles and calm. Go, Mouse!

Beta testing games at mom's work.
She was great afterwards as well. I took her to my office for a bit before dropping her off at school, just to make sure she was fine and to let the numbness wear off a bit ("Mommy, my nose is SO BIG!"). Then I dropped her off with her special lunch of pudding and applesauce and a hard-boiled egg (her request) and went back to work.

And that's the story of Evelyn's second tooth to go. Now, I hope for no more until she's a bit older.

*The Tooth Fairy was really planning ahead, and left a very special My Little Pony in mommy's car on the front seat the afternoon before the dentist appointment, because she was going to be busy and unable to procure said pony to deliver the night after the extraction. Evelyn doesn't miss a thing, and spied the box instantly when she was getting into her car seat. So I explained to her just how on top of things the Tooth Fairy is. She was satisfied with the explanation. *Phew*
