The best is yet to come.

Inhale, exhale, and be present.

We're on the verge of a change in seasons around here, and I'm as antsy as the next person for fall to officially arrive. The hoodies and warm socks are ready. Yummy soups are in the freezer just waiting to be warmed up and served with some crusty bread.

But while I'm eager for fall to come and stay a while, there's so much good to enjoy right now. I'm really not even sure how to categorize all the goodness for your reading (and my later remembering) pleasure, so let's just go down the line.

GOB

GOB keeps an eye on his sister at all times. It's probably for the best.

Gideon is now seven months old! I'll have to go back to the blog archives to double-check, but I'm pretty sure his motor skills are way ahead of where Evelyn's were at 7 months. He's commando crawling anywhere and everywhere he wants to go... and also often were he doesn't really want to go, as he likes to get himself stuck under the bed and coffee table and then cry. Last night Jonathan was wrangling the kiddos before bathtime, and GOB decided to just go ahead and pull himself up to standing, holding on to the side of the tub. Jonathan and I both just stood there with our jaws on the floor. He is still very interested in eating anything and everything. He now goes to bed at the same time as Evelyn, but he typically wakes up
sometime around midnight and then wants to eat a few times between then and morning time. I don't really keep track of times or how much sleep I get or any of that. I think I did so much of that tracking and counting with Evelyn that I got my fill for a lifetime. I figure I feed him when he's hungry, we sleep when we sleep, and it works! GOB is still happy and funny and sweet sweet sweet.

EVELYN

If you give a Mouse a twizzler...

Owl hat, Cinderella underwear, an adoring little brother... Evelyn's got it all.
Today was the first day in her whole life that Evelyn has gone all her waking hours without a single accident. Cue the marching bands! Actually, potty-training hasn't been bad at all. I think it helps so much that she sees her friends at school going in the potty and it's the hip thing to do, you know. Hooray for peer pressure! Mouse is totally in love with Cinderella, too, so the Cinderella underwear are a big motivator - as is getting to watch Cinderella if she goes in the potty and earns her stickers. Evelyn is really embracing life as a big sister, which you can appreciate even more after having even the shortest conversation with her. She refers to herself almost exclusively as "Big Sister" and she usually speaks in the third person. So we get lots of, "Big Sister want cheerios! Big sister no like it! Big sister do it self!" You get the idea. Just the other day, I realized that we're deep in the trenches of the so-called terrible twos and it really hasn't been bad. Of course the wise ones who've gone before us have warned us that it's actually the threes that are a handful. So check back with me in a year and I'll let you know.

THOSE OTHER PEOPLE

The parents in the house are doing pretty well, too. Today was my second day the new job and I'm still swooning. Working in the private sector is so, so different from being the public schools. And so, so, so, so, so different from being a grad student living on less than minimum wage. I love it. Really really love it. I love it so much that I'll just have to tell you about it in person, because there's too much to write here. I mean, just as one little tidbit for you, I did yoga at work for an hour this afternoon before picking up the kiddos and doing the evening thing. It's amazing. I'm also about halfway through my latest stint in boot camp at CrossFit Durham and I'm loving that too. I haven't really lost enough weight for it to matter, but I'm losing inches and gaining sanity, clarity, relaxation, and cheerfulness every day. I won't be re-upping for another session because Jonathan and I are on a kickball team with his work so we'll move right into kickball season come October.

Jonathan is still doing his thing at work, making sure we all laugh enough at home, and wishing that it were about 30 degrees cooler. I'll let him fill you in on any other exciting events over at his blog. :)

What's with this peer pressure? Telling people to read my blog!? That hasn't been updated since Gob was born...

Love it! Glad to hear things are going so well. Perhaps I'll get to see you all in June?
Big sisters are, without a doubt, the coolest people on the planet! It looks like Evelyn is almost ready for twister - very impressive.

I'm with Jonathan on wanting it to be 30 degrees cooler. AT LEAST. And I'm glad all is well with everyone in your house. :)
