"School" started today! I guess technically it's still daycare, but I'm not entirely clear on the distinction between preschool and daycare, so I just call it all school to keep it simple. Anyhow...
Evelyn is in the Monitos (Little Monkeys) classroom this year, and through incredible luck/serendipity, she has the same amazing teacher she's had since she started school! Miss Cristina has been with her when she was an Abejita, a Mariquita, and now a Monito! Evelyn was so excited to hear that Miss Cristina would be her teacher, and she was completely thrilled to be back with her friends this year. Her Assistant Teacher is Ms. Amparo. We have some new friends to meet, as the class size increases to 16 kiddos now that they're all 2. Evelyn will be learning so much this year, including potty-training which they start to work on in earnest around October/November. She also gets to play on the big kids' playground! It's going to be a great year for her. She's already found the babies in the classroom, and when I left this morning she was cooking food for the babies and she didn't even look up to say goodbye. Success!
Today is Gideon's first day of school, and he is in the Abejitas (Little Bees) room with Ms. Maria Elena and Ms. Silvia. He was so curious when we dropped him off this morning, and he seemed really content to sit with the other Abejitas and chew on the toys. I had to fill out some paperwork and when I came back to say adios to Gideon, Ms. Silvia said, "He's so calm and happy!" Yep. That's Gideon.
So here's to a fantastic school year for Evelyn and Gideon!
(P.S. Remember last year's first day of school? And the year before, on her very first day of school ever? Wasn't that just yesterday?!)
