Well, we've been home for a week today and while I have unpacked, I still haven't put everything away. In my defense, I have been sidetracked by the never-ending swapping and sorting of too-small clothing and a family full of sniffling, sneezing people with colds. So, I am still working on a recap of our time in Kansas. I want to do it justice because it was SUCH a good trip.
But for now I thought I'd fill you in on three little changes we're making around these parts.
- Meatless Monday: Yep, we're joining the cool kids and going meatless every Monday - at least for dinner (the kids will probably have meat at school for at least one meal, and Jonathan can decide for himself what's for his lunch). We tend to eat a lot of meat, and we're not on the road to vegetarianism anytime soon, but having at least one meatless meal per week that's intentionally meatless (i.e., not ramen noodles) will keep things just that much healthier and keep us creative. It's so easy to get in a rut with dinner ideas.
- Wednesday Unplugged: My dreams have come true! We've talked about doing this in the past but never really made it past the talking stage. Now we're in agreement and going forth with the unplugged plan. So on Wednesday nights you won't find us on the computer, the phone, the TV, or the Kindle. Maybe we'll be staring at each other, wondering what to do. That sounds exciting, doesn't it? Last week for our first Unplugged night, we played Scrabble and I crushed Jonathan. So we're off to a good start.
- Sleeping through the night?: Well, not quite. Gideon still wakes up to eat but he usually goes right back down, at least for a while. But we're slowly trying to figure out how on earth the bedtime routine will work with the kids being these ages. Things are really easy with Evelyn, so we're just working on getting Gideon into some kind of similar routine so that one day we can put them down to sleep in their room, for the night, at the same time. For now we're still getting Gideon to sleep after Evelyn is down, and moving him into the crib after he's out. If you have any helpful hints on baby/toddler room sharing, please share the wisdom!
Otherwise, things are going well. Just filling the days with as many fun, free things as we can!
