I'm writing.

Things are happening, really. I know it's been like six weeks since the latest blog update, but life just got pretty spectacularly busy for a minute there. And actually it still is busy. Tomorrow is technically my last day of internship, but since there's no way I'll finish the nine reports I have left to write by tomorrow at 4 PM, I'll be working a little bit longer to get them done. I'm giving myself until Friday. That's convenient, since Friday is Evelyn's last day of school!

Anyhow, in the interest of time and getting back to work (or will sleep win tonight?), here are some other things that have been happening. A bunch of these could probably be their own posts, so stay tuned.

  • Gideon rolled over (back to stomach). I'll try to figure out the date, or I won't, but it happened and happens quite a bit ever since.
  • Evelyn started this most adorable habit of saying "Ummmm" before answering a question. So tonight at bedtime I asked, "What songs should we sing?" and she said, "Ummmm... Animal Fair?" It's better in person.
  • Evelyn pronounces her name kinda like anemone - without the an
  • Gideon still smiles and laughs his way through the days
  • I've evaluated and tested a bazillion kids
  • Jonathan's been productive at work
  • We're on day three with our toilet sitting in our bathtub
  • Richard came to visit and then Richard and Terry left. And then the house got really messy, really quickly. And Evelyn walked around saying "MeeMaw? Pop Pop? MeeMaw? Pop Pop?" all the time.
  • Jonathan grilled some amazing steaks.
  • We rang in the summer with an afternoon and evening of food and fun with the family unit plus more
  • I found a freezer recipe involving shrimp that I'm going to test for this month's swap... fingers crossed that it tastes okay because I don't have time to test it!
  • We upped the ante on the meal swap and are now making two meals to share per month. Oh sweet convenient meals, how I love you and look forward to having 10 dinners on-call every month!
  • Jonathan and I finally went to a performance at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham and loved it. Well at least I loved it. He said the play was depressing (which is probably why I enjoyed it, obviously).
  • Gideon went to his first Durham Bulls baseball game... kinda
  • I went into type-A overdrive and created a detailed plan for how I'm going to spend every minute of this summer with the kidlets. This could very well be my only stay-at-home-mom experience! Surely that calls for themes every week with field trips and art projects relating to the theme, regular attendance at library storytimes, weekly lunches with dad, and the like?
  • I went to the dentist for the second or third time in a row with zero cavities! I thought he was joking.
  • Gideon accompanied me to work and I tried to entertain him as I cleaned out my office... He was not too impressed.

  • I finally remembered to take a picture of my dream house. Three-sided wraparound porch gorgeous farmhouse? I'll take it. I drive past this every day on my gorgeous drive to work in rural NC.

  • Evelyn became obsessed with the Llama Llama books. In turn, I memorized our favorite (Llama Llama Mad at Mama), so we always have a story on hand even if we don't have the book. Or, as Anna Dewdney might put it, "Llama Llama's always near, even if it's not right here."

Okay that's about all I can muster for this evening. I think I'm going to hit the sack so I'm fully prepared for tomorrow.
