You might want to come look at this...

That's what Jonathan said after he went to check on Evelyn once we gave up on naptime today. She was really quiet - I only heard a very small thump that I figured was a dresser drawer closing but of course I thought the worst thing that could mean was some clothes strewn about.

I forgot about the tub of vaseline in the top drawer. Which, clearly, she can reach and open. By the time Jonathan went into her room, the damage had been done and she was just hanging out in bed. The vaseline was returned to its place in the drawer, lid back on and all.

We started by combing out what we could, which was a few paper towels' worth of globs. She also had it all over her face. And then there was the bed, dresser, and worst of all the microfiber rocking chair.

She thought it was all quite funny. Although by the sixth washing and rinsing of her hair in the bath immediately following naptime, she started to lose some of her patience. We gave up on really making an impact with the baking soda/shampoo combo that the internet told us to try - even with all the scrubbing her hair was still coated and the water beaded up on her little toddler skin since she'd rubbed vaseline in all over that too.

The internet told us to try scraping off any goop we could from the chair and then sprinkling cornstarch on it, letting it absorb the oil, and then vacuuming it off. Not so much. We now have a chair with a nice coat of vaseline, topped off with a layer of cornstarch (this is post-vacuuming). Tomorrow we're going to try the little Green Machine we use for cleaning the carpet and see if that helps with the poor chair. And we're going to try some Dawn on Evelyn's hair - as Jonathan said, just like one of those oil spill ducks. Here's hoping it works!

What a stinker! Hard to tell if she thought it was fun enough to try it again. Given the internet response - I'm kinda amazed at how often this seems to happen...

Also - I still haven't made it to the gum wall.

I do know how much not-fun this can be, baby. And, I kinda figured you guys had tried the Dawn dish soap thing first, (since that is what's used for the poor oil soaked birds after bad oil spills.) Sure hope it works! xoxo
