Evelyn and I had the day off school today for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We took full advantage. I was really looking forward to a special day with my girl, as I don't know how many more of them we will get before Dos arrives!
E started the day off right munching on some red berry flax frozen waffles (the flax makes frozen waffles a healthy option, right?) while I busied myself hand-scrubbing the mountains of dishes that had somehow piled up in the kitchen since Christmas. (Jonathan is the designated kitchen cleaner, and Christmas was when his mom was here and she did his job for him... it hadn't really been done since. And if you're reading this, Jonathan, I do love you very much. But I also wish you'd clean the kitchen.) Anyway, I was determined to get the dishes clean because our fancy-pants dishwasher was going to be installed today!
Cut to 20 minutes later, when the delivery people call to let me know that they are not, in fact, coming today. Womp womp. At that point I was too invested to just stop cleaning, so onward I went. Evelyn was being a model almost-two-year-old and singing to her Baby.
Finally, the dishes were pretty much done and we were free to get dressed and ready for our fun day! I had big plans. Lunch with daddy and then possibly Pullen Park to ride the carousel and train? So we were off.
Evelyn is enjoying life as a forward-facing passenger ever since this past weekend. She's not two yet, and I really wanted to let her go rear-facing until she maxed out the rear-facing allowances for her carseat since it's safer that way, but alas neither of our cars would allow two rear-facing seats and still accommodate Jonathan in the driver's seat. So Baby Dos will be rear-facing and Evelyn is now facing forward. She really doesn't seem to care either way. I think it's a little easier to load and unload her.
We walked around and stared at people at Jonathan's office (Evelyn takes a while to warm up, so while everyone said hi to her, she just started at them) and then headed to our favorite lunch spot, Neo Asia.

I wish that one wasn't so blurry - she adores her dad as you can see. She also adores wonton soup, and she knows what to do when the fortune cookies come.
After lunch we dropped off Jonathan at work and decided it was probably time to head home for a nap before we began our next adventure. This is where mommy's plans fell apart a bit. E passed out for about 15 minutes in the car before we got home, and then once we were home she decided that continuing naptime was out of the question. Apparently it was a really good 15 minutes of sleep!
I disagreed with her plan and tried to reason with her, snuggle, sing, rock, read, lay next to her and read my book... she was having none of it. So I moved on to plan B - nest. Evelyn helped me locate all the boxes of baby clothes and stuff, which I did have boxed and in the garage or attic but not at all labeled or clearly organized. It took a while, but we worked our way through it all and pulled out what I wanted to get for the first few months of Baby Dos's life - neutral teeny tiny baby clothes, blankets and swaddlers, pumping stuff and bottles... soon it'll all be folded and organized and ready.
Evelyn and I hung out, danced a little, played, folded laundry, chased the dog... nothing super exciting or unusual, but it was a good day. When Jonathan got home from work, we had dinner and then he got her into her jammies and they snuggled in bed and watched an episode of Thomas, which is a new daddy-daughter treat that allows Jonathan to play with his Kindle.
Now E is in bed, Jonathan is resting up and feeling about 75% good after his stomach bug yesterday, and I'm getting ready to possibly finish my new book (a reward for making it to full-term) instead of doing the work stuff I probably should be doing.
Tomorrow morning is the big 37-week appointment with Dr. Nervous! I'll fill you in all the details ASAP.
