Some excitement!

Top line is Dos's heartbeat. Bottom line is measuring contractions.

Last night we had an adventure! At about 7 PM, I took my blood pressure at home as I usually do in the evenings when I'm winding down a bit. I had a particularly high reading (in the 150/100 range) and thought hmmmm this is not good. So I laid on my left side, drank some water, and relaxed for an hour or so before taking another reading. The second one was even higher! Boo hiss! At that point I had to call the doctor because the rule they gave me was that I had to call if I had two high readings.

Thankfully, it was the suuuuper calm and low-intervention resident on duty last night! I kinda felt bad because they don't have to be at the hospital unless they have a patient in labor, and she was at home when I called (and I secretly know she's pregnant because another doc let it slip one day), but then I suppose it's her job and all... so I didn't feel too badly. Anyhow, she told me that since I haven't really had labs done since late December I should go ahead and meet her at the hospital to get labs and monitoring.

Commence the frantic last-minute packing! I've had about 80% of our stuff packed for a while, but not all the little last-minute toiletries and electronics and such, so we had to get that all together. Jonathan called Adrian to get Evelyn for the night, since we weren't sure if we'd be staying at the hospital and didn't want to take her all the way to Cary where she'll be staying with a friend when I go into labor for real. So we got that all arranged and off we went. The doc later told us it took about an hour for us to get to the hospital from the time we called.

Once we were there, I got hooked up to the fetal monitor and they also measured my contractions. I had a med lock (IV port) put in so they could get blood and so that if we needed to stay for induction, they wouldn't have to stick me again. And then we waited and waited and waited.

In the end, the lab results all looked good so right now I don't have pre-eclampsia! Hooray! I do have gestational hypertension, but there are different protocols for that so they don't have to induce just because of it. My pressure went down while I was at the hospital. They also said that I'm having pretty regular contractions, but they're not really painful. I'm 3 cm, 40% effaced, and -1 station. So this is early labor. Now you can be in early labor for like a week without it turning to active labor.

They sent us home around 2 AM with my jug for another 24-hour urine screen. I'm going to be an expert at those. And I'll head back to the hospital first thing in the morning to take that to the lab and have a non-stress test and amniotic fluid index done. If that all goes well, they'll have me go back in on Monday to see the doctor and we'll just keep watching and waiting. I'm banned from going in to work because of the distance (and it's not really feasible to collect my urine at work all day...) but I can work from home with my feet up so I'll try to get something accomplished.

But I'm excited that the option is still there for me to go into active labor on my own! Maybe I'll take a little walk today to see if that does anything too!
