I probably should take a new belly photo at some point, but to be perfectly honest with you, my decent clothes come off the instant I walk in the door and I'm rocking a tank top and yoga pants, often with a bit of belly poking out, from about 5:30 PM onward. Not exactly photo-ready.
Anyhow, we've made it! Baby Dos is officially full-term as of today, and I am a happy camper. Now if we can make it 5 more days, little Dos will have cooked for longer than Evelyn did and will, perhaps, be just that much stronger and ready to take on the task of nursing from the get-go!
Dr. Nervous was his usual self this morning, although I was happy to report that my blood pressure was a respectable 118/87 when I took it at home before heading to the office, and when they took it there it was also good! He was happy with this news. He said I was measuring at about 38 weeks, he didn't see a need to do a cervical exam (OH HAPPY DAY), and he only got tripped up for a moment when he asked me about my pain management plan. When I told him I plan to avoid any drugs, he gave me a skeptical look and then I explained Evelyn's birth and he said, "That's commendable." So we'll see what he thinks. I like working with the residents because I feel like many (most?) of them do not often see low-intervention births, so I hope I can show them that yes, doctor, the female body is incredible and designed to give birth. Fingers crossed that Dos's arrival is as good as Evelyn's was. And if I could do it without pitocin or mag sulfate?! Be still my heart.
Dos passed the non-stress test with flying colors and we were sent on our merry way. On Friday I go in for a biophysical profile, which involves a non-stress test combined with an ultrasound to obtain an amniotic fluid index. Or, as doc wrote on his note, I'll have an AFI/NST. Thanks to Wikipedia for clearing up the doctor jargon. If things continue to look good, then we'll just take it day by day from here on out. Back to the doctor a week from today, an ultrasound again the following Friday, and so on and so forth.
I am probably romanticizing the idea of going into labor naturally, but I do think it would be exciting. The element of surprise! If I don't go on my own, provided everything still looks good with baby and with my health, they said they will still induce between 39 and 40 weeks. I'm going to try for like 39 weeks, 6 days and see what they say. Or I might go with February 2nd or 3rd so Jonathan has the weekend off and doesn't have to take as much time from work... not sure yet. But we do have to go ahead and get it on the schedule at next week's 38-week appointment.
So that's all the news for now! Time for me to get back to work... or resting...
