Mothers

This year I've grown to appreciate mothers even more than I ever did before.

[My Momo with two of her children... The one on the left is Evelyn's Momo. Someday maybe I'll be a Momo too.]

Mine is, of course, among the very finest of mothers. But then there's my maternal grandmother and her four sisters. And their mother, who I don't think I ever met but who had have been pretty awesome because she raised five strong women who are the matriarchs of our family. And my paternal grandmother, whose memory is only there in small bursts that are filled with intense and unquestioning love.

I also have perhaps the best mother-in-law I could ask for.

She raised two of the kindest, most responsible, good men around and I got to marry one of them. She loves Jonathan, she loves me, and she loves her grandchildren. So. Much. Evelyn is blessed to have such a MeeMaw (even if I still haven't figured out how to spell that... two e's or one?).

And this year I've really been able to slowly start to experience motherhood more and more. Sometimes it's terrifying, beautiful, challenging, perfect, empowering, painful, surprising. It's exactly what I want. I couldn't do it without being surrounded by so many mothers who have taught me and loved me and supported me for the past 28 years.

Here's to a good day for all of the mothers. Thank you for all you do.
