All is quiet on New Year's Day

Happy 2011! It'll be tough to top 2010, but I'm still looking forward to whatever this year has in store for me and those I love.

Jonathan and I rang in the new year with some friends in Raleigh. There was Rock Band, tasty wine, meatballs, conversation, a precious 8-week-old baby (daughter of the host and hostess), and... a flat tire when we went out to our car to head home. Luckily a few of the guys came out to give Jonathan a hand and made quick work of the tire change.

Evelyn has been pretty sleepy today. We went on a long walk to explore some new (to us) parts of the neighborhood and try out the new big wagon. Evelyn was pretty ambivalent about the whole thing. But she did like to throw her ball over the side of the wagon and make us fetch.

I usually try to stay pretty minimal or vague with the resolutions, but this year we're jumping on the health bandwagon and doing a little 90-day challenge to start '11 off right. Jonathan and I are challenging each other to make healthier eating and exercise decisions and thereby lose weight. On April 1st, 2010, there will be a final weigh-in and the loser (based on percentage of weight lost) has to give the winner his/her spending money for the following month. It's not a huge prize, but the big prize is actually doing it. Having more energy, and being healthier as Evelyn starts to get more mobile and more into eating with us as well. So I'm excited. I know I won't be excited about it every day for the next 89 days, but today it's been good. One day at a time. I did register for a 1/2 marathon on March 20th, and signing up (and paying) for races is always pretty good motivation to keep up with the exercise side of things.

Evelyn's resolutions: learn to walk, learn to eat, talk a little... seriously, my aspirations pale in comparison to the amazing and huge changes cognitively and physically that babies have as they grow.
