Yep, this mama's got mono.
After yet another sleepless night (no fault of Evelyn's, of course), waking up every thirty minutes with a sore throat unlike any other, I decided it was time to head back to the doctor. Student health at NC-State was closed today, so off to Urgent Care I went. I visited them back at the end of September for similar symptoms - though not quite as bad as they are now. I also visited student health twice at the end of October for the same stuff... the sore throat has been pretty much constant since late September, and the other symptoms have come and gone just to keep it interesting (e.g., high fever, sinus pain, neck pain, pink eye).
The doc took a look at my tonsils and confirmed what I already knew - "They're huge and covered in pus." Awesome. He did a strep test. It was my third strep test since late September. I crossed my fingers that it would be positive so I could have an answer, but of course it was not. So we moved on to the prime suspect number two - mononucleosis. The blood test confirmed it, and I was sent home with written instructions to REST AND DRINK FLUIDS. It's a virus so there's really nothing you can do for it but rest and wait.
So the mystery illness that has made me feel icky pretty much all semester has been diagnosed. And now, right before finals week and a few big projects and presentations and clinic appointments and practicum visits... I am supposed to rest. Hmph. I will do my best. I know I've probably already drawn it out by not resting much at all this semester. But to think... I had myself convinced that it was just normal to feel like I'd been hit by a truck. I mean, school, parenting, playing taxi, other life drama... Well, I'm excited to see whether things get a little easier to manage once I get over mono.
P.S. Evelyn enjoyed her first Thanksgiving! I was a little bit busy and/or drinking scalding hot tea all day to try to numb my throat, so I got almost zero pictures. But she had fun. :)
