Back to School

Evelyn and I started school this week. It's actually been pretty exciting and good. I think it was nice to ease into it, as our first day of school was Wednesday and then we went today but we have tomorrow off.

So Miss Mouse is attending a Spanish immersion preschool that we really love. After the basic requirements of cleanliness and such were met, the only thing I cared about when searching for daycare was the warmth and kindness of the staff. Her teachers and the other staff are just amazing. I cried a little bit when we dropped her off the first day, and I did pick her up early, but I have honestly been okay with it. Today I had some time to kill before picking Jonathan up, so I went and hung out with her outside and in her salon (salon = classroom, one of this month's words). It's amazing how just being in that immersion environment takes me back to my years of Spanish and makes me want to speak it. I understand almost everything her teachers say to her, so I know I have at least an infant-level Spanish comprehension! Ha. Even though we weren't specifically looking for a language school, I'm pretty stoked that she'll be bilingual by the time she heads to kindergarten. Then the challenge will be keeping up with those language skills.

And school for me? Not nearly as exciting. I think I'd rather spend the day at school with Evelyn. I'm taking Cognitive Psych, History and Systems of Psych, and I'm doing a practicum that involves working with teen moms and their families and babies. I like that last one. And of course I'm working in the clinic at school and doing that dissertation. Same old, same old.

please please please keep up with the language. more than ever now i realize how important it is to know them. not only will she be uber-intelligent and marketable, but she'll have an edge on many people and be able to communicate with many more. i have friends here that can speak 5 (yes, 5!!) languages and daily i wonder why the states doesn't insist on keeping up with the rest of the world in this department.

so glad to see you all are doing so well.

much love!
