We have been supported in so many ways over the past four and a half months. Delicious meals, moral support, cards, phone calls, emails, advice, hugs... and the big one - help with caring for Evelyn while Jonathan and I work. The Mouse has been well loved by so many awesome friends and family members and we've never had to worry about her care while we're away.
But this week my fall semester schedule started to solidify and we realized that I will need to spend about three solid days each week prostrate to the higher mind, if you will. And so we were going to need daycare. Like, real daycare. But, preferably, three-days-a-week daycare... which is quite difficult to find.
So the hunt is on. The first place we visited we both really loved, and since our visit in talking to other people and thinking more about it and reading reviews, we only love it more. It's within easy walking distance from Jonathan's work, they're flexible, and most importantly, the staff were all really warm and loving. As icing on the cake, it's a Spanish immersion school and there are cameras in the rooms that you can access anytime, so I see some staring at Evelyn while I'm supposed to be paying attention in class happening in my future.
But of course it can't be so simple. There's a waiting list. We paid the non-refundable fee to join the list and now we just wait. And in the meantime, we keep looking. I visited another center that I wasn't really loving, and on Tuesday I'll do another tour of a different place... and perhaps we'll join a few more waiting lists.
We're pretty cool about the daycare thing so far, provided we can find a place we like that can actually take the Mouse. But I'm sure that on the first day I leave her there I'll be a complete wreck.
I haven't seen any of these baby-cage-disguised-as-crib contraptions yet. While I do understand the utility of such a contraption, I really don't think most parents would be sold on the baby cubby idea...
