No place like home.

The house hunt continues. After a second look on Wednesday at a few from our big hunt last weekend, the only remaining "round 1" house was on Emmit Drive in Raleigh. And, well, it turns out that East Raleigh is pretty far away from everyone and everything we're attached to right now.

So out we went today with our eyes fixed on East Durham. Bigger houses for less money, and closer to things and people we like... not bad. Here are our current top three contenders.

1. Spring Creek

This one's a foreclosure, which means a couple of things. First, we can get a really, really, REALLY good deal on it. Like... we'll pay less for our mortgage than we currently pay for rent. That would be nice. Second, it needs a little love. We learned that sometimes people are not so happy when their house is foreclosed, and they sometimes take it out on the house. Like how they cut giant squares out of the screened-in back deck screens, so it's not so much screened in now. And how they removed a mirror and light fixture in the half bath... and left one room partially unfinished (needs carpet)... the place would need paint and carpet/better flooring throughout, but that's something that we could work on. We don't think there's structural damage - it's a pretty new house that's just been roughed up a little. And it could be fun to re-paint and patch some drywall here and there... right?

2. Big Twig

Like a red front door and a good porch, I'm a sucker for a big tub. What this house lacks in outdoor character (hello, little box on the hillside with NO trees...), it makes up for with it's "move-in-ability", good floors, size (hello, bonus room), and price.

3. Elderberry

Here's another one that's move-in ready. It's the smallest of the few we looked at today, but it has some perks. Decent storage, a fenced and large backyard, an open feel... This is Jonathan's #2 house today but my #3 just because I'm a bit concerned about the size and room to grow.

But you never know what will happen when you bring along some discerning eyes. I'm looking forward to the second-look feedback tomorrow to help us make some decisions. Then maybe this will be the week for an offer? The ticking time bomb in my womb is making me nervous as the days go by!
