The one where we realize we're adults.

As we drove home from the credit union this afternoon, we discussed the current state of affairs for team Bartel here. Kid on the way, mortgage loan pre-approval. And Jonathan said that he didn't really feel like an adult, but here we are doing adult things, and shouldn't someone be stopping us? Telling us we're not ready yet?

I guess our time has come.

We're not sure whether we'll shop around for other good faith estimates on the loan issue. We've felt pretty good about our credit union, and they have a first-time homebuyers program where you get 100% financing and don't have to do the Personal Mortgage Insurance (PMI). It's a fixed-rate mortgage with what seems to be a pretty good rate... so overall we're really happy with the deal. Now we just have to find a house and get under contract by April 30th so we get in on the first-time homebuyers tax credit. I think next Spring could be quite nice for us as far as Uncle Sam goes, with the tax credit and the baby happening in 2010.

So the next step is to contact the realtor and let her know that we're ready to go a-hunting. We've added a few wishes to our house list, so it's now like this (in order of priority):

1. Three bedrooms
2. Fenced back yard (Olive's request)
3. Front porch
4. Washer/Dryer included
5. In a neighborhood where we can get fiber-optics
6. No homeowner's association
7. Large bathtub

Some are much more/less important than others, of course. We'll keep you filled in on the details of the house hunt as it unfolds. And for the curious about topic number 3, the baby, we'll be headed to UNC Women's Hospital for a sonogram this Friday afternoon to check Baby B's growth and blood/oxygen levels.

You guys are such good grown-ups.
Y'just are.
I'm happy for you on so many levels AND am relieved to see that a good front porch has made it's way onto your top few important things.
2010 has all the makings of a crazy good year both here and there. Thank God you blog about it so I don't have to miss much.
But you. I miss you. Hugs in person. Soon. xoxo
