Then there's that.

Talking to one of the faculty today during group supervision about planning for the future...

Faculty: So what's the spring semester looking like for you?

Me: Well I have those two assessment courses (6 credit hours), and the family practicum (10 hours/week), 20 hours a week working in the clinic, and I'm supposed to be writing a dissertation... and...

Faculty: Is that it? Anything else?

Me: Oh yeah, having a baby.

Faculty: Oh, right!

We were discussing whether it would be wise to add a consultation practicum to the mix. I think most of my classmates are sticking in their schools all year, doing the general school-based practicum this semester and the consultation one next semester. And I could theoretically do that, if my Christmas wish for 36-hours in the day comes true. Or I could say no and make the consultation practicum work itself out for next Fall.

I'm going to say no. No no no no no no.

I think 36 hours/week not including any dissertation work or outside of class reading or projects... combined with having a kid... will be just the right amount of demands on my time. I think next time we're asked what the nursery theme is going to be, I'll just say that the theme is "Mom's getting a PhD." ;)

When asked the umpteenth time what our nursery theme was going to be, I finally said "rottweilers and chainsaws". That seemed to do the trick.
