Being transplanted to The South.

One of my favorite college roommies sent me a birthday card with the following, which completely cracked me up:

"Are you tired of the Southern accent yet? Do you ever hear people say things like 'I might could' and want to rip your eardrums out?"

It was perfect timing.

I've been doing reading interventions, basically having kids read passages aloud while I score for accuracy and correct errors and such. And this morning after a couple hours of listening to these adorable kiddos reading, I found myself saying things like "oh - kaaai" (for OK) and "gaw uhheeead" (for go ahead). Probably not enough for them to notice, but I definitely caught myself.

I might could take a nap now, but alas it's off to teach.

My faves from my days at the DOT are "suh-poe-suh-blee" (supposedly), "mash the button" (turn on the lightswitch), and "whee-heel" (will).

What a hot mess!
