The peaceful, clean, quiet powder. Falling softly.
The icy roads, the anticipation of getting off work or school early.
It's snowing in Kansas. Back home. And I miss it more today than I think I ever have.
Sure, Kansas takes some flack every now and then. It's a red state, a bible-belt state, a place that everyone I meet out here seems to vaguely recall driving through but not stopping to experience. But I do miss it.
Don't get me wrong, I love it here. I love the trees. I really love the ocean. I love our place. I love being near family even though we're far away from home. I even love the cell phone towers poorly disguised as giant pine trees. (In Kansas, they sometimes disguise these towers as GIANT flag poles, by putting a ball on the top and attaching a huge American flag...)
But I spent some formative years in the sunflower state. I won't go on about it now because I have a paper to write, but suffice to say that I miss it today.
