A few weeks ago, I fell in love with "Beagle #4" - a puppy from a kennel in Western NC. She was teeny-tiny and adorable. So adorable, in fact, that someone else shelled out the cash to claim her before Jonathan and I could finagle our finances. I was sad when I discovered that the beagle I had my heart set on was taken, but I decided to go back to the local beagle rescue agency in the off-chance that they had puppies available.
And then I fell in love with this little pup. She was found wandering a really busy street, with a belly full of worms and some mange.
Jonathan and I decided to go ahead and complete the application, starting the ball rolling on the formal beagle adoption process. This evening I had a phone interview, and later in the week we'll have our home visit. Then on Sunday we'll go to an adoption event and meet some of the beagles and volunteers... I'll probably leave wanting a whole pack of beagles in addition to my little pup.
So, this puppy is just an example of what is to come. I can't get my heart too set on her, because others might be further along in the adoption process and they might adopt her... but I'm sure our little pup will be equally adorable. She'll be a beagle, after all. In the end, I feel much better getting a rescued dog than going to a breeder, so I'm sure we'll be happy no matter how long it takes. We just have to prepare Sydney to share the love...

Edit: Points of clarification
- The puppy pictured above most likely will not be ours. Others are probably further along in the adoption process and they have first dibs.
- The puppy pictured above was found with mange and worms. They do not adopt out dogs with such conditions. All dogs are brought up to good health over an extended period of time while in their foster homes before they become available for adoption.
- We fully understand that dogs need to be fed, walked, and generally cared for. And those things aren't free. Really, we understand. We've picked up some general life pointers over the past 25 years. :)

2. Tickets are ridiculous to get! I heard they are going on the internet for $20,000 - so be sure to keep that option open. I will be very bummed if you don't come to visit. . . but there is also a chance that I will be in raleigh/duram the weekend before. It would be just miserable if you were in my town the very time I was in yours.
Good luck!!
