I was thinking I'd wait until things were all neat and tidy... or at least until we hung something on the walls... or until everything was perfectly neat...
But I decided against it. You're family/friends, right? That means you're welcome whether it's perfect (extremely rare) or not quite so perfect (the norm).
So, welcome! Let us show you around.

Sydney extends his warmest welcome to all visitors. Doesn't he look friendly? That's because he is. Oh, and that mouse is the last from a new pack he got last night. He has a penchant for hiding mice under the refrigerator.
Here's what you see when we open the door to greet you! To your right is a small coat closet. We'd like to get a wine cabinet thing with cubbies for shoes so we can be a shoeless house... it's on our Ikea wish list. Someday...
Moving on, to your left, you enter our kitchen and "breakfast nook" area. By breakfast nook, I mean extra space to store our various kitchen appliances. We do actually use them regularly, with one exception. What exactly should I be making with our sweet food processor?
Um, this is our fridge. The outside is more exciting than the inside. If you send us pictures or funny cards or tests you aced or cool drawings, they'll be here too! How exciting is that?!
Finally, the living room. There are all sorts of exciting things here. We have a mountain of bean bags, giant pillows, and blankets piled behind the couch. We have the coffee table of doom, and the wood-burning fireplace (one of Sydney's favorite hangouts). That' s pretty much it for downstairs... there's a tiny half-bath under the stairs with some rockin' pastel stripe wallpaper, but that's a treat you'll have to see in vivo. Let's go upstairs.
I'll let you take a peek into my closet, because the rest of the bedroom is (a) boring and (b) even more disheveled than the rest of the house. I organize my clothes by color, in rainbow order. Doing so helps me remember that I can probably stop buying blue, gray, brown, black, and white now.
You know how in middle school and thereafter, you always ask - in your most whiny voice - why math is important and when am I actually going to need this information in real life? Well, kids, take our fabulous little bathroom shelves as exhibit A. I measured these here shelves and I measured these blue bins and I was certain that two bins would fit on each shelf. And that the bins wouldn't be longer than, or stick out of, the shelves. I was wrong on all counts. But we made it work.
The office/Spare Oom/Your guest quarters! Looks inviting, no? I think the internet cable draped over the crate "bookshelves" is a nice touch.
Also in the office: our sadly inadequate, though quite sturdy, bookshelves. Someday our books will have a home in these awesome bookshelves and we'll have an organized library. But until then... Maybe we can fashion some of them into your guest bed?

That concludes your tour. I hope you're okay with skipping over the washer and dryer. They look like a normal washer and dryer. Oh, and Sydney's bathroom (which will be yours if you visit) - how many times do I have to tell that cat to sweep up any litter he tracks out of his box? Really.

Other news: Is the cost of fuel going down anytime soon? We've got some serious travel on the horizon. October will take us to Charlotte for the NCSPA conference and our first anniversary celebrations, and it'll take me waaaay out in western Kansas for my friend's wedding. We'll head to the Outer Banks in November for the marathon. In February I'll be in Boston (!!!) for the NASP conference, we hope to make it to Phoenix in March for another wedding, and then Kansas again in July for... wait for it... a wedding!
And we're getting ready for our first tropical storm! The natives seem somewhat nervous, cancelling picnics and outings and planning to stay inside all weekend. I'm not so sure that it'll be as apocalyptic as some excited weather people seem to suggest... I guess we'll see!
