This morning was our last "race" workout until the marathon. We ran a 10k as fast as our legs would carry us, and for me that was 1:17:50. I beat my goal of 1:20! Yippee!
Technically, a 10k is 6.21 miles. We were running the ATT today, which is marked at quarter-mile increments. So we ran out to 3.25 and back until we had .25 left to go - meaning we ran 6.25 miles. My pace was therefore 12:27/mile - not bad!
According to the handy-dandy prediction gadget over at Runner's World, my projected marathon finish time based on today's split would be 5:55:35. That's actually longer than it took me to run my first marathon, but the good news is that there's plenty of training before the race so my predicted finish should improve as I improve. Hooray!
I wore my Brooks running skirt and I saw the one other skirt runner this morning. We were both rocking the pigtails as well, which made me smile. The running skirt gets 4 stars from me. It did ride up, but I kinda figured it would as the shorts are not true compression shorts and they're not long enough for my "healthy" thighs. Hence my current desire to wear something like this in the marathon - but I'm so tired of black! But the skirt kept me cool like shorts would, and even though I knew the shorts underneath were riding up, the skirt kept everyone else from witnessing that scene. They'd thank me for that, I'm sure. I was also a huge fan of having pockets again!
Oh yeah - the opening ceremonies last night? AMAZING! Those people in the boxes made to look like printing blocks were my favorite, but it was difficult to choose. There was such precision and I love seeing so many people all organized and artistic. Aaaah, I can't wait for the gymnastics to start.
Today's inspirational thought comes from a man who ran a couple of races at the Olympics, and then decided "Hey, why not, I'll run the marathon too" at the last minute - and won.
A runner must run with dreams in his heart.
