Yesterday, my designated "sleep-in day" this week, I was awoken at the far too early hour of 9:00 AM by a tap-tap-tap on the window. This sound was a bit odd, because our bedroom is on the second story and can't be reached from the ground at all. In my sleepy fog, I wondered for a minute what it was and then rolled back over. A couple of hours later, I was in the living room when I heard a tap-tap-tap on the sliding door. And later, tap-tap-tap again in the bedroom.
This morning it was there again, at the bedroom window. A woodpecker. In fact, he's been tapping away as I type. Jonathan said that the woodpecker was there last night around dusk, and Jonathan hit the inside of the wall to scare him away. It worked for a few minutes, but he was back.
I think it's a Hairy Woodpecker, though it could also be a Downy Woodpecker. It's difficult to catch him on film - as my low-quality picture indicates.

Oh, and I think he's obsessed with tapping near our bedroom window because there's a rather large Mud Wasp nest there. I've seen him fly away with some tasty larvae. So I'm okay with him controlling our wasp population.
