We drove down to Council Grove yesterday to surprise Jonathan's mom Terry for her birthday. Though a team effort with Richard (Jonathan's dad), the surprise worked and we all got to spend some time at the Cottage House Hotel (a cute Bed and Breakfast). We also took in the scenery and historical markers in and around Council Grove. Most of these were of course related to the Santa Fe Trail - making it a relaxing and educational trip all rolled into one. Jonathan dropped his glass plate on the floor at the breakfast buffet, making our record 2:2 with causing problems at Bed & Breakfasts (ask about our Honeymoon escapades sometime...). In his defense, it was a rather small area with giant trays and no place to set them except precariously on the edge of some surface.
This evening we regretfully declined an invitation to go snuggle with Felix, as my defense is tomorrow and I probably should prepare at some point. I'm obviously still managing to procrastinate. So far I have given my hair a hot-oil treatment, moisturized my legs and feet, watched some old Office episodes, and pondered some baking before the night is through.
The week is sure to bring excitement, though it's rather front-loaded. Tomorrow I will defend my thesis at 4:00, go to the pre-Awards banquet party at 5:30, pre-banquet "social hour" at 6:30, Psych Awards Banquet 2008 at 7:00, and banquet after-party from 9:30 until the exhaustion hits. The rest of the week pales in comparison: a day at internship (grumble, grumble) on Wednesday, class and a visit to a state mental hospital on Thursday, and our postponed dinner with Felix and family at some point...
