Any takers?

As I sat on the couch this evening, contemplating my couch-potato-ness, I realized that I should run again. Running is like meditation. There aren't rules to confuse me and it doesn't take too much coordination (though I still manage to fall and sprain ankles/faceplant from time to time). But there's also this incredible sense of fulfillment, cardiovascular fitness, killer legs, an excuse to eat more ice cream after a long run... The list is endless.

So I moved myself from the couch to the computer and discovered that there is an OUTER BANKS MARATHON! And it's in November! And walker-friendly (which, to me, means that slow people like myself are welcome)! It has a 7 hour, 40 minute time limit. And I can almost guarantee that you, oh unknown internet reader, can finish in under 6 (which was the limit in Lincoln).

So right now it's just an idea, but an exciting one that may just turn into my next goal. I still have my marathon training stuff from when I took the class, and there's tons of info. available all over for training plans. But I think I'll need someone to run with.

So... want to run with me?*

I'll think about it. The most I've run is a 10K which seemed like a huge distance at the time but is only a fraction of a marathon. My best friend from high school runs marathons, but she was good at x-c too where as I was... well, we don't need to go there.

Adrian says he's in... but I'll believe it when I see it.

Awesome! It looks like a VERY beginner-friendly course. A lot more scenic, a lot more flat, and a much more community support than Lincoln had.

I never did XC - my friends did and I couldn't even think about it. I did sprints for a year and then I was a thrower... and horrible at both! But marathons are for everyone! :)

as i read your post (and before i saw your *cough*hack*guilt*), i thought, "hmmm... maybe i could do that." how fast do i have to walk to cover 26 miles in +/- 7 hrs? about 3.5 mph? hmmm...

just so you know, i declined an "automatic" berth to the varsity girls soccer team my senior year in high school because having to run 6 miles for "tryouts" was just too far.

and i was in shape back then.

Sounds like quite a challenge you have put out there!!! Richard and I could come and be at the rest stops with goodies again. I promise I won't be crying this time, because I know you would be able to finish and survive!!!! Terry B

Terry,

I think you'd enjoy being a spectator at this one more than Lincoln because it's so scenic and there's a lot to do between "rest stop" breaks.

Also, you probably won't be having a deer attack you the day before the marathon, which might help with the nerves? ;)
