To celebrate the quarter-century mark, a fabulous birthday cake was in order for Jonathan. Details? Of course:
I deci
ded to go with the trusty cake from a box, and then mix it up a little with the decor and filling. So, here we have your basic chocolate cake mix. I carefully cut off the rounded tops to make the discs even and flat, and then I spread a thin layer of cream cheese frosting to seal in the crumbs. Then came a thick coat of a special filling of cream cheese frosting mixed with crunchy peanut butter. Delicious.

Next, I stacked the second layer of cake on top. I realized that I was going to have a gap around the edges, because I didn't spread my filling out thick around the edge. These things happen. I moved on to frosting the
whole outside of the cake (except the bottom) with the extra fudge whipped frosting from duncan hines or something. This part's fun. I like to heat up the frosting for just a few seconds in the microwave and then plop big spoonfulls onto the cake. It makes spreading much easier and keeps the crumbs away.
Finally, I added peanut-butter m&ms (Jonathan's favorite). And while Jonathan made fun of me for keeping all of the "m"s oriented correctly, I think it adds a little something... a little neuroticism?
And that, friends and family, is the story of Jonathan's twenty-fifth birthday cake.

P.S. GO WILDCATS!
