The good, the bad...

It's been a special week in the Lawrence division of Bartel homes. (That sounds like a company.)

The good:

- Chelsea went on a site visit to the Topeka Correctional Facility, (Check out the link for a video tour! Odd, isn't it?) where two of her classmates are completing their internships. It was an informative look at the Kansas Department of Corrections. And she found out that one of the jobs that inmates can have is manufacturing Kansas Lottery scratch-off tickets. Were you aware of it? She also visited the site of another peer, the inpatient behavioral healthcare unit at Mercy Hospital in Manhattan, but no lottery tickets were being produced there.

- Jonathan's college friend Hideki came up for the weekend because Lawrence is the place to come for good music. The men spent some quality time mastering two-player Guitar Hero III with only one guitar (You can play with the wii-mote. Well, some people can. Chelsea is still trying to master it with the guitar on the "easy" setting). You can barely see Hideki in the picture, but he's there. Oh and he bought us a tasty dinner at The Salty Iguana. Yum!

- Jonathan's parents came up and helped with various household tasks, namely constructing some shelves so that we can better organize our strange pantry/closet thing, and donating some groceries to fill said pantry. It was nice. And it only involved three separate visits to The Home Depot! I might take some pantry pictures because I know they'll be exciting, but you'll have to wait.

The bad:

- The [insert your favorite angry adjective here] Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Washburn University denied my application. This will set back the clock on my thesis being completed. And it's just frustrating in general because my thesis committee didn't foresee problems with my prospectus. I have to make some changes (such as removing an item from the BDI-II, which compromises its validity) and reapply for IRB approval. There is a haze of shady politics that lives in the psych department at Washburn. It' s quite like the twilight zone sometimes. But I'll pretty much do whatever the IRB wants if it means I can do my research and graduate. That was a cathartic rant. :)

- Chelsea had to work (see picture of Chelsea pretending to work, which is often the case due to a ridiculously high no-show rate), so we missed the Tegan and Sara show. This was sad. But we're still going to Nickel Creek on Wednesday. Can't miss a farewell tour.

- Jonathan would probably like to mention the big writer's strike, which will sadly limit the final season of Scrubs to 12 episodes.

Name that TV Show: "Break me off a piece of that Fancy Feast!"
