Big Sister

Evelyn the Storm Trooper*

So far, we've had lots of questions about how Evelyn is adjusting to her new role as a big sister. I usually say that she's doing well, but she wants me to hold her a lot more and she sometimes gets frustrated when both of my hands are occupied with the baby so I can't help her.

"Hey, brother!"

But Evelyn has been really helpful in fetching things (my water bottle, diapers and wipes for Gideon), and she has been sweet to Gideon so far. She gives most of her love and nurturing, however, to her Baby. She has loved Baby since she got it from MeeMaw last summer, but now she's really starting to do all kinds of things to take care of Baby.

She insists that Baby has a clean diaper and at least one outfit on at all times (though Baby is usually wearing no fewer than two of her special Baby onesies as well as at least one set of Gideon's PJs).

As Mommy changed Gideon's diaper and put him in clean clothes, Evelyn was doing the same with Baby.

She rocks Baby in her arms and in the swing, shares food and drink with Baby and cleans her hands and face after the meal, and she has even insisted that Baby take a bath with her. While I was in the hospital for Gideon's birth, Evelyn had Baby with her at my friend Brandi's house and in every single picture Brandi sent me, you can find Baby. Brandi even said that she was impressed with Evelyn's assertiveness when they were out and a little girl tried to take Baby - Evelyn said, "NO! Miiiiiiiiiiine!" really loudly and scared the other girl away.

Last night I was nursing Gideon on the couch and Evelyn was playing before bed. She went and got the Brest Friend pillow and put it on, which usually means that she wants to hold Gideon (we can just put him on it when she's sitting down and it helps her hold him). But this time she got her Baby and sat herself down on a blanket. She lifted up her shirt and nursed baby. Jonathan was trying to be discrete when taking photos, but it was so sweet.

She even burped Baby when she was finished, and then it was time for Baby to go night-night.

* Be impressed that I didn't call her Darth Vader. I have a rather limited understanding of Star Wars.
