The Best Laid Plans

Did you notice how determined I've been to wait until February to meet Baby Dos? Was anyone thinking quietly to themselves, "Umm, I'm not sure that's entirely in her control?"

You WERE?

You didn't TELL ME?

Well, it's looking more and more like we'll have a January baby this time around. Although I've been diligently monitoring my blood pressure at home every day, the past few times I've gone to the doc my blood pressure has been creeping up. I'm now on the baby aspirin regimen and I just finished up a 24-hour urine collection. I did one for a baseline at the very start of this pregnancy, so now the docs can compare the two numbers and see how things are looking. In my last spot-check, there was a trace amount of protein in the urine, and that's the culprit. If you spill protein into your urine, it's a sign that team kidney isn't doing its job, and when organs aren't doing their jobs doctors start to get all antsy.

So I've re-read all the research and it's true that there's really good evidence that the best thing to do for severe pre-eclampsia is to induce labor at full-term (or as late as you can possibly wait, depending on the severity of the pre-eclampsia). That's 37 weeks, or January 17th. And that, my friends, is my new goal: make it to January 17th. As much as I do want a 40-weeker because I think those extra weeks do matter for development, if I can get to full-term with these concerns already cropping up (right now I'm at 33 weeks), I'll take it.

Now, there is much to be done between now and mid-January, so I should go. I'll keep you updated though! Baby Gideon is coming soon! (I've decided to be convinced it's a boy and Jonathan is therefore rooting for a girl.)

Sending nothing but ginormous good vibes, baby. Knew this was on your mind ... I love you. You and Gideon are both tenacious. xoxoxo (PS: While I totally agree with you on the fact that this is, indeed, Gideon; I would still like to propose Clementine Maureen for a girl's name. Repectfully. xo)
