I'm a Dreamer

Vivid dreams are commonly mentioned as an added perk of pregnancy. I don't remember having many with Evelyn, but it's a different story with little Dos. I think the dreams probably stem from the fact that I wake up a lot more during the night, whether to shift positions, move a pillow, go the bathroom, or whatever... so I have more chances to wake up in the middle of a REM cycle and the dreams are just right there in front of me then. Anyway, here are a few I've had in the past week:

  • I was at a sonogram with my sister-in-law (she was getting the sonogram) and the baby was super active, bouncing all over the place, and the doc said, "Well, there it is - you proved me wrong - it's a BOY!" I don't know what the "you proved me wrong" was about. But according to my subconscious, they're having a boy. I have a 50% chance of being right!
  • I was at my middle school for some kind of assembly and I was on the bill to give a speech. I don't know what it was supposed to be about exactly, but something about success and drive and stuff - typical middle school pep talk. My favorite teacher was there and things were running over time and my speech got cut and I flipped. Then I woke up.
  • This morning, I dreamed that it was raining outside and then started dripping on my head in bed. Then as I got out of bed to find Jonathan, the drips became like a little Winne-the-Pooh raincloud and followed me wherever I went but were more like a rain shower and I was getting soaked. I ran to find Jonathan before he left for work, saw him through the open window and yelled for him, then ran out through the garage and he was gone. And it was winter outside. I couldn't reach the water off valve in the garage, so I went back in and all the furniture in the bedroom was askew and it was no longer dripping.
I think that covers it so far. According to one online dream dictionary (and who wouldn't trust that to tell me about my psyche?), the dreams reflect unconscious helplessness, fear of being ignored, and "spiritual ideas coming to fruition in my mind". Ummm... right.

Have you started keeping a dream journal? I can imagine the wee one having a great time reading it when she/he's older!

Hi there, I found your journal from the Students Grow blog. I saw your comment about play-based learning. There's a great book called Einstein Never Used Flash Cards that you might want to check out. I'm an SLP and I found the discussion about moving from academic to developmental expectations really interesting.
