That's my hope as I start looking toward Christmas this year. I'm really hoping to have some success in making or doing for gifts rather than buying, buying, buying. I tend to spend more than I have and then have the double problem of not only spending more than I should have, but also doubting that I got "good" gifts anyway - no matter how much I spent. So this year, keeping with my efforts at The Compact, I'll give making and doing a try.
I can think of so many things that people have made and done for me in the past that I have loved. One of my favorite Christmas presents last year were some throw pillows that My sister-in-law made with some fabric I got forever ago intending to turn into pillows myself but I never got around to it. My mom has made me countless things - mittens, hats, quilts... all things that I love. Jonathan made me a scrapbook with pictures of us. These are the things I'd save if the house went up in flames. These handmade gifts. Now, of course, I love a good ipod, high-count sheet set, or spa gift certificate as much as the next person. So I'm definitely not above purchased gifts. I'm just hoping that I can be creative enough to come up with some good home-spun presents this year.
So, family, feel free to drop hints as you see fit. Otherwise it'll be crocheted cat sweaters and cookies all around*.
*I can also make dog sweaters.
