11 Weeks

... and counting.

Today we have a little fig. Tomorrow, at 11 weeks and 1 day, we will officially have a fetus (no longer an embryo). This means that all organs are in place and basic bodily structure and function are somewhat on board. And the period of highest risk for things to go wrong is coming to a close, which is good.

I don't really look pregnant at all, probably thanks to the little bit of weight loss. The midwife told me that my uterus had "popped" a little (this is the reason people look pregnant; the uterus isn't contained within the pubic bone's little home for it anymore and pops out over the top of the bone). But so far, no real bump for me. I'm okay with showing a little later, since I'm in a wedding in October and the dress is not forgiving in the belly area. I'd also like to get a camera before I start showing so I can document at least some of this pregnancy! But I need NC-State to decide to start paying me first.

Lots of people have been asking if we've started buying stuff. Um, no. Not at all! We have time before the baby comes, and even though everyone says it'll go by in a flash, we do have a list of the things we plan to buy and it's a short list. I'll share it with you sometime later. We won't have a nursery because we don't have an extra room for that, and we're pretty sure the baby won't care, but that cuts down on a lot of extraneous baby gear right off the bat. So it'll be an experiment in parent/baby resourcefulness. We'll let you know when we run screaming to Babies 'R Us for the Bumbo or diaper wipe warmer that we just couldn't survive without. ;)
