On Thursday night, I enjoyed a fabulous show at The Ogden Theater in downtown Denver, a graduation gift from my awesome husband. I wasn't entirely sure who the headliner was, with a lineup of Missy Higgins, Brett Dennen, and Mason Jennings. To my dismay, the headliner was Mason Jennings (I was pulling for Missy).
So, while I was a touch disappointed to see that not everyone was as obsessed with Missy as I am, it was still an awesome show. Mom and I didn't even stay for Mason Jennings - we saw him do a small set at the Independent record store next door about an hour before we went to stand in line for the concert.
Missy said that her "mum" was in the audience, and after her set this group of people in front of us turned around and looked so excited to ask my mom if she was Mrs. Higgins. Not so much. But we got a laugh.
So it is. I still love Missy - I hope she can make it in the States. And I'm loving Brett Dennen - not only for his social commentary, but for his happier songs like "When You Feel It" and "Blessed." Check it out, I tell you. Oh, and check out Brett and Missy's cover of Tom Petty's "Breakdown" on Youtube. They played it at the show.
And my mom's a pretty awesome concert date. She got us a couple of sweet concert posters, she registered to vote, and she was just generally fun - all that after having a rather traumatic tooth extraction mere hours before the concert. Thanks, mom. It was great.
