I'm usually a fan of grocery shopping on Monday mornings - me and all the nice older people slowly browse and read labels and such. Not so when everyone and their talking head on TV is warning of an epic ice storm marching our way. Hurry! Get your brown sugar and dog bones! (The lady in front of me in the crazy long line had 5 bags of brown sugar and the largest bag of dog bones I've ever seen. Not sure about that...)
But we're bracing for the ice. And it looks like our North Carolinian family members (who are now experiencing a heat wave, according to Al Roker) might just get a little white Christmas when they come home. Or at least a very cold and icy Christmas, with some leftover snow from last week still on the freezing ground.
Here's what the National Weather Service says (and in all-caps! be afeared!):
ICE AMOUNTS OF THIS MAGNITUDE CAN BE EXPECTED TO PRODUCE WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES. NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE FOR THIS STORM. CHECK THAT FOOD... MEDICINE...AND FUEL LEVELS ARE ADEQUATE. TRAVEL WILL BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. PERSONS IN THE WARNED AREA ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN INDOORS DURING THE EVENT... BUT IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...BE SURE TO TAKE AN WINTER STORM SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU. THIS WOULD INCLUDE A MOBILE PHONE... BLANKETS...HIGH ENERGY FOOD...AND SAND OR CAT LITTER.
Oh yeah - the oven man finally figured out the problem and the oven is functioning again! Time to break in the mixer! I'm so excited.
